Understanding Earwax and When Professional Removal is Needed

Ear wax, medically referred to as cerumen in medical terms, forms naturally within the ear canal, acting as your body’s natural defence against invasive dust, damaging bacteria, and intrusive foreign particles that might otherwise harm your hearing health.

Excessive or hardened earwax isn’t just an annoyance – it can bring about a range of bothersome symptoms! You might suffer temporary hearing difficulties, that frustrating ringing sound known as tinnitus, uncomfortable earaches, episodes of vertigo, or simply that full sensation that your ears are totally full. Isn’t it amazing how such a tiny issue can cause such serious problems?

Compared to the NHS’s restricted capacity for ear cleaning procedures, Millar Ear Care delivers fast appointments with professional ear wax removal specialists.

Plenty of individuals at first visit their GP, afterwards finding themselves sent to independent facilities for necessary treatment. Our service provides rapid access to expert medical expertise, avoiding long waiting periods traditionally associated with referrals.

Why Choose Microsuction Earwax Removal in Coatbridge?

When considering ear wax removal services in Coatbridge, selecting microsuction is important as it provides the most reliable and efficient method for removing excessive ear wax blockage.

When compared to conventional syringe irrigation techniques, professional microsuction employs a fine suction cannula with microscopic visual guidance to carefully extract built-up ear wax. This advanced approach provides for exact and risk-minimised removal of built-up cerumen at the same time as maintaining optimal visualisation throughout the procedure.

Our highly-regarded audiologist and well-trained practitioners deliver microsuction earwax removal procedures which evidently surpass older ear syringe techniques in results and effectiveness. This advanced approach establishes the gold standard in professional ear care.

The micro-suction technique allows for precise removal of impacted or excessive earwax without risking your ear drum or ear drums. This makes it the ideal option for people wearing hearing aid devices or individuals with a background of ear concerns. Isn’t it wonderful to have such a safe option accessible?

Millar Ear Care Examination

Our Comprehensive Earwax Removal Service for Coatbridge Customers

Pre-Treatment Assessment

Ahead of undertaking any earwax extraction procedure, our practitioners conduct a comprehensive ear health assessment. This thorough examination ascertains the presence of an earwax obstruction while determining the best method for eliminating the collection. Should our assessment demonstrate no wax is present, we give clear advice regarding earwax management methods and preventative measures.

Professional Microsuction Technique

Our microsuction ear wax removal procedure utilises modern equipment that securely removes earwax from an individual ear or both ears, depending on your particular needs.

Our procedure enables clinicians to maintain a unobstructed view of the ear canal while they employ the suction tube to remove surplus or impacted wax. This technique is especially appropriate for patients who use ear hearing aids or other hearing devices.

Ear Wax Softening Preparation

Before your treatment appointment, we typically advise using ear drops like olive or almond oil for a few days. This softening technique will make it that hard wax easier to prepare for simpler removal! You can purchase some suitable olive oil drops from your local pharmacist, or we’d be delighted to recommend the best options when you come in for your consultation. It’s incredible how easy preparation can make such a difference?

      FAQs

      • What is wax microsuction?

Wax microsuction is the precise clearance of wax from your ear canals. Microsuction involves your specialist using a surgical microscope and a small suction tube to, basically, “suck” out your ear wax (very slowly and carefully!).

Surgical microscopes give a complete and precise view of your ear canals, unlike other methods of clearing wax which use loupes (like magnifying glasses) or irrigators (squirty devices). Microsuction is by far the safest and most effective way of removing ear wax – don’t accept anything else!

      • Does wax microsuction hurt?

No, it is generally painless. Most people describe a slight tickling sensation. Discomfort is rare and usually caused by very hard or impacted wax.

      • Is micro suction safe for everyone?

Yes, it is one of the safest methods of cleaning ears and is suitable for people of all ages, including those with perforated eardrums and sensitive ear canals

      • Do I need to prepare before my appointment?

Yes, using olive oil drops a few days before microsuction will help soften wax, making the procedure more comfortable.

      • How long does the procedure take?

Around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the amount and consistency of wax or debris. We take our time and make sure it is done properly!

      • Are there any side effects or risks?

Very occasionally, people can describe symptoms of slight dizziness, mild irritation and brief changes in hearing following microsuction. However, these symptoms usually settle very quickly and we always suggest people sit in the waiting area for a while after microsuction.

We have an unlimited supply of tea available, please just sit and make yourself comfortable, before you head home
