Ear Wax Removal

Millar Ear Care is Glasgow’s premier ear care clinic, offering professional microsuction earwax removal services with specially trained and accredited practitioners.

Ear Wax Removal Glasgow

Millar Ear Care provides comprehensive ear health assessments and earwax removal using microsuction with a surgical microscope, the safest method to remove earwax. Our service helps patients across Glasgow and surrounding areas to get rid of excess wax and restore their hearing.

Understanding When Professional Ear Wax Glasgow Removal Services is Needed

Earwax, also known as cerumen, is naturally produced in the ear canal to protect your ears from dust, bacteria and foreign particles.

However, excessive earwax or impacted earwax can cause significant problems including temporary hearing loss, tinnitus, earache and a feeling of fullness in one or both ears.

Unlike the NHS, which has limited availability for ear cleaning services, Millar Ear Care offers prompt access to professional ear wax removal specialists.

Many patients visit their GP first, only to be referred to private clinics for treatment. We provide direct access to expert care without lengthy waiting times and no need for a GP referral letter.

Why Choose Microsuction For Earwax Removal?

When comparing wax removal clinics in Glasgow, it is essential to choose microsuction using a surgical microscope as the safest and most effective way to remove excess ear wax. Whilst some practitioners use magnifying spectacles or loupes to attempt a form of microsuction, the field of vision obtained is inferior to that of a surgical microscope.

Unlike traditional syringe irrigation methods, professional microsuction uses a gentle suction tube with full, surgical microscopic visualisation to remove any excess wax safely and completely.

Kirstie, our Nurse Practitioner offers microsuction earwax removal services that are far superior to ear syringe techniques and magnifying/loupe-based methods.

The microsuction method allows precise removal of hard or excess wax without risk to your eardrum or ear drums, making it the preferred choice for patients with hearing aid devices or those who have experienced ear problems previously.

Our Comprehensive Earwax Removal Service

Pre-Treatment Assessment

Before any wax removal appointment, our team conducts a thorough ear health check. This comprehensive ear examination determines whether earwax blockage is present and identifies the most appropriate way to get rid of the build-up. If no wax is found during the assessment, we provide honest information on earwax management and prevention.

Professional Microsuction Technique

Our microsuction ear wax removal process uses state-of-the-art microscope equipment to safely remove earwax from one ear or both ears as required.

The procedure provides a complete and unobstructed view of the ear canal whilst using a fine suction tube to extract excessive or impacted wax. This method is suitable for all patients – don’t accept anything less!

Ear Wax Softening Preparation

Prior to your removal appointment, we often recommend using ear drops such as olive or almond oil drops for several days. This softening process helps prepare hard wax for easier removal. Your local pharmacist can provide suitable olive oil drops, or we can recommend appropriate options during your consultation.

Why Millar Ear Care is Glasgow’s First Choice for Ear Wax Removal

Clinical Excellence

As a trained and accredited Nurse Practitioner, Kirstie has extensive expertise in advanced microsuction techniques. She uses the safest methods available and maintains the highest standards of care across her practice.

Integrated Healthcare Approach

Unlike most other ‘independent’ providers, Millar Ear Care offers direct, in-house onward referral for comprehensive hearing assessment following earwax removal. The Audiology team at Clyde Audiology can conduct a full hearing assessment (pure tone audiogram) to assess your hearing levels and even provide an ENT Consultant review, if additional specialist medical assessment is required.

What to Expect During Your Earwax Removal Appointment

Initial Consultation With Ear Wax Removal Glasgow Specialists

Your appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms, which may include hearing loss, tinnitus, earache, or vertigo. We examine both ears to assess the extent of any earwax blockage and determine the best approach for removing ear wax safely.

The Ear Wax Removal Glasgow Process

Using professional microsuction equipment and a surgical microscope, Kirstie will very carefully remove the earwax build-up and any skin debris from your ear canal. This meticulous process is comfortable and allows real-time visualisation of the ear canal to ensure complete and safe earwax removal.

Post-Treatment Care

After you have earwax removed, Kirstie conducts a final ear health check to ensure complete clearance and provide advice on preventing future excessive earwax accumulation. Patients typically experience immediate improvement in hearing and relief from associated symptoms.

Comprehensive Information on Earwax Management

Prevention Strategies

We provide detailed guidance on how to clean your ears safely and prevent future build-up. This includes advice on using ear drops appropriately and avoiding harmful practices that can push wax deeper into the ear canal.

When to Seek Professional Help

Understanding when professional ear wax removal Glasgow is necessary helps prevent complications. Signs requiring professional attention include persistent hearing loss, ongoing tinnitus, earache, or fullness that doesn’t resolve with over-the-counter treatments.

      FAQs

      • What is wax microsuction?

Wax microsuction is the precise clearance of wax from your ear canals. Microsuction involves your specialist using a surgical microscope and a small suction tube to, basically, “suck” out your ear wax (very slowly and carefully!).

Surgical microscopes give a complete and precise view of your ear canals, unlike other methods of clearing wax which use loupes (like magnifying glasses) or irrigators (squirty devices). Microsuction is by far the safest and most effective way of removing ear wax – don’t accept anything else!

      • Does wax microsuction hurt?

No, it is generally painless. Most people describe a slight tickling sensation. Discomfort is rare and usually caused by very hard or impacted wax.

      • Is micro suction safe for everyone?

Yes, it is one of the safest methods of cleaning ears and is suitable for people of all ages, including those with perforated eardrums and sensitive ear canals

      • Do I need to prepare before my appointment?

Yes, using olive oil drops a few days before microsuction will help soften wax, making the procedure more comfortable.

      • How long does the procedure take?

Around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the amount and consistency of wax or debris. We take our time and make sure it is done properly!

      • Are there any side effects or risks?

Very occasionally, people can describe symptoms of slight dizziness, mild irritation and brief changes in hearing following microsuction. However, these symptoms usually settle very quickly and we always suggest people sit in the waiting area for a while after microsuction.

We have an unlimited supply of tea available, please just sit and make yourself comfortable, before you head home
