Millar Ear Care FAQs
All your questions related to Millar Ear Care
What is wax microsuction?
Wax microsuction is the precise clearance of wax from your ear canals. Microsuction involves your specialist using a surgical microscope and a small suction tube to, basically, “suck” out your ear wax (very slowly and carefully!).
Surgical microscopes give a complete and precise view of your ear canals, unlike other methods of clearing wax which use loupes (like magnifying glasses) or irrigators (squirty devices). Microsuction is by far the safest and most effective way of removing ear wax – don’t accept anything else!
Does wax microsuction hurt?
No, it is generally painless. Most people describe a slight tickling sensation. Discomfort is rare and usually caused by very hard or impacted wax.
Is micro suction safe for everyone?
Yes, it is one of the safest methods of cleaning ears and is suitable for people of all ages, including those with perforated eardrums and sensitive ear canals
Do I need to prepare before my appointment?
Yes, using olive oil drops a few days before microsuction will help soften wax, making the procedure more comfortable.
How long does the procedure take?
Around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the amount and consistency of wax or debris. We take our time and make sure it is done properly!
Are there any side effects or risks?
Very occasionally, people can describe symptoms of slight dizziness, mild irritation and brief changes in hearing following microsuction. However, these symptoms usually settle very quickly and we always suggest people sit in the waiting area for a while after microsuction.
We have an unlimited supply of tea available, please just sit and make yourself comfortable, before you head home
