Understanding Earwax and When Professional Removal is Needed

Cerumen commonly referred to as earwax, is a natural material created in the ear canal that provides a defensive barrier against particles, germ invasion and the penetration of foreign particles into your ear.

Nevertheless, when earwax collects or hardens and blocks within the ear canal, it may result in notable complications. These unpleasant effects often include temporary loss of hearing, constant ringing in the ears, discomforting ear pain, feelings of dizziness, and an distressing feeling of blockage impacting one or possibly both ears. The storyteller in all of us recognises these symptoms as unwanted interruptions to our daily narrative.

Compared to the NHS, where ear cleaning services are limited, Millar Ear Care offers prompt access to specialist specialists for ear wax removal.

Plenty of people contact their GP to begin with, only to be directed to private clinics after all! We cut out that intermediate step by delivering fast access to specialist care minus those frustrating long waits. Isn’t that an improvement?

Why Choose Microsuction Earwax Removal in Greenhead?

When considering ear wax removal services in Greenhead, choosing microsuction is essential as it offers the most safe and dependable method for getting rid of excessive ear wax buildup.

Unlike conventional syringe irrigation techniques, professional microsuction uses a gentle suction cannula with detailed visual guidance to carefully extract built-up ear wax. This sophisticated approach provides for exact and safe removal of surplus cerumen whilst maintaining continuous visualisation at all stages.

Our audiologist and specially trained practitioners offer microsuction earwax removal treatments which achieve results notably more effective than those achieved through ear syringe methods.

The micro-suction technique permits accurate removal of difficult or excessive earwax without endangering your ear drum or ear drums. This renders it the top option for patients wearing hearing aid equipment or those with a history of ear concerns. Isn’t it wonderful to have such a risk-free option accessible?

Millar Ear Care Examination

Our Comprehensive Earwax Removal Service for Greenhead Customers

Pre-Treatment Assessment

Before beginning any earwax extraction session, our practitioners conduct a in-depth ear health assessment. This comprehensive examination ascertains the presence of an earwax obstruction whilst determining the most appropriate method for eliminating the accumulation. Should our examination reveal no wax is present, we offer forthright advice regarding earwax management plans and proactive measures.

Professional Microsuction Technique

The microsuction ear wax removal methodology utilises cutting-edge equipment ensuring the safe extraction of earwax from either a single ear or both ears, depending on the patient’s particular needs.

Our process allows specialists to maintain clear visibility of the ear canal while concurrently eliminating extra or impacted wax with the suction tube. This approach is especially appropriate for people who wear ear hearing aids or hearing devices.

Ear Wax Softening Preparation

Before your removal session, we often advise administering ear drops, specifically olive or almond oil types, for a few days prior. This softening method successfully prepares impacted wax for more simple extraction. Your nearby pharmacist can supply suitable olive oil drops; alternatively, we can advise on appropriate products during your consultation appointment.

      • What is wax microsuction?

Wax microsuction is the precise clearance of wax from your ear canals. Microsuction involves your specialist using a surgical microscope and a small suction tube to, basically, “suck” out your ear wax (very slowly and carefully!).

Surgical microscopes give a complete and precise view of your ear canals, unlike other methods of clearing wax which use loupes (like magnifying glasses) or irrigators (squirty devices). Microsuction is by far the safest and most effective way of removing ear wax – don’t accept anything else!

      • Does wax microsuction hurt?

No, it is generally painless. Most people describe a slight tickling sensation. Discomfort is rare and usually caused by very hard or impacted wax.

      • Is micro suction safe for everyone?

Yes, it is one of the safest methods of cleaning ears and is suitable for people of all ages, including those with perforated eardrums and sensitive ear canals

      • Do I need to prepare before my appointment?

Yes, using olive oil drops a few days before microsuction will help soften wax, making the procedure more comfortable.

      • How long does the procedure take?

Around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the amount and consistency of wax or debris. We take our time and make sure it is done properly!

      • Are there any side effects or risks?

Very occasionally, people can describe symptoms of slight dizziness, mild irritation and brief changes in hearing following microsuction. However, these symptoms usually settle very quickly and we always suggest people sit in the waiting area for a while after microsuction.

We have an unlimited supply of tea available, please just sit and make yourself comfortable, before you head home
